On 10 September, 2013 UNDP, UNFPA, UN Women and UNV came together, through the regional joint programme Partners for Prevention, to launch the report ‘Why do some men use violence and how can we prevent it? Quantitative findings from the UN Multi-country Study on Men and Violence.’ The study of over 10,000 men in Asia and the Pacific found that overall nearly half of those men interviewed reported using physical and/or sexual violence against a female partner, ranging from 26 percent to 80 percent across the sites studied.

A new UN study on men’s use of violence against women was launched at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand on 10 September 2013. The study of over 10,000 men in Asia and the Pacific found that nearly half of those men interviewed reported using physical or sexual violence against a female partner, ranging from 26 percent to 80 percent across the sites. Nearly a quarter of men interviewed reported perpetrating rape against a woman or girl, ranging from 10 percent to 62 percent across the sites.

On behalf of the four UN agencies - UNDP, UNFPA, UN Women and UNV - a forward-looking evaluation of the Partners for Prevention programme (2008 - 2013) was conducted by a team of external evaluators to assess the performance of this joint regional programme for gender-based violence prevention in Asia and the Pacific in achieving its objectives around capacity development, communication and research. The evaluation was conducted between November 2012 and May 2013.

The Sexual Violence Research Initiative is proud to announce the 3rd international conference on sexual violence research, SVRI Forum 2013: Evidence into Action. The aim of SVRI Forum 2013 is to promote promising practices for preventing and responding to sexual and intimate partner violence. The Forum 2013 will be co-hosted by Partners for Prevention,and will be held 14 – 17 October, at the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel and Towers, in Bangkok, Thailand.

The new documentary,‘A Man’s World’, focuses on the issue of rape in Cambodia and what can be done to prevent it. The 30-minute documentary, part of the Al Jazeera ‘101 East’ series, includes interviews with Partners for Prevention’s Research Specialist, Emma Fulu, and UN Women Cambodia Country Director, Wenny Kusuma.

Partners for Prevention gave a keynote speech to gender advocates and researchers at the ‘Engaging Men in Building Gender Equality’ conference, which took place 28-30 November in Wollongong, Australia. The conference, aimed at understanding current work in the critical study of men and masculinities, was organized by The Centre for Research on Men and Masculinities (CROMM) in the University of Wollongong.
