LESSONS LEARNED ABOUT PRIMARY PREVENTION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS IN THE ASIA AND THE PACIFIC REGION
The UN Multi-Country Study on Men and Violence in Asia and the Pacific was conducted in sites across Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka and Vietnam between 2010 and 2013 and was a collaborative effort among partners from academia, research institutes, civil society, the United Nations family and governments. Implementation of the study represented the first time that specific data on men’s perceptions and perpetration of violence against women had been gathered on this scale and in a coordinated manner in the Asia-Pacific region. This working paper provides lessons learned from key actors on what aspects of the study were successful, what proved challenging and what improvements can be made by those who are interested to replicate the methodology or similar studies.
